When Diligence Becomes Self-Gifting

Like everyone, there are times i just want to be lazy and procrastinate.

Especially on cold, wet, dark afternoons.

I probably could.

There’s really nobody to hold me accountable.

Except me.

I am restructuring my website, creating the Mean Girl 180° Online Membership, and preparing for the winter in Florida.

I’m fighting real hard not to give in to the couch with a book, a blanket and warm cuddles with my Cavalier puppy, Romeo.

But then I’d be really bummed tomorrow, next week and next month for not getting things done.

So I do it.

Later, instead of being bummed, I’ll be excited.

Just like what happened a few years ago.

My husband and I went to Florida during the winter.

Upon our return, I expected to find my car in its usual state – no gas and in need of a good cleaning.

What I discovered was a delightful surprise.

My car had a full tank of gas and sparkled with cleanliness.

What an amazing gift.

Someone had cleaned my car.

Except, I’m the one who cleaned my car.

I gave myself that gift before I left.

And I forgot about it.

I couldn’t have been more happy and grateful.

This experienced served as a reminder of how often we forget the value of self-care.

We forget we are worth it and that we can provide simple moments of happiness for ourselves.

When you think about the little things you do for other people, think about little things to do for yourself that will create your own happiness.

Next time Mean Girl tries to tell you, “I can do that later?” Think about how excited you’ll feel when it’s already done.

I bet it’ll feel like self-gifting.
